Paulding Airport Firms Up Air Show Plans

Suburban Atlanta Airport Calls Its New Event 'Salute America 2012'

Paulding Northwest Atlanta Airport in Paulding County, GA, has firmed up plans for its inaugural airshow, set for October 20th of this year.

At a meeting last week, the Airport Authority settled on the date and the name "Salute America 2012" for its first foray into the air show arena. A four-person committee was established in November for the purpose of putting the concept in motion.

But now that the initial decisions have been made, more people are going to have to get involved. According to 'neighborhoodnewspapers.com', airport director Blake Swafford told the airport authority that an air show is "a very, very, very large event. It can't be done by four people."

Swafford said that he anticipates between 12,000 and 14,000 people will descend on the airport for the event, and that it will take a combined effort of the airport authority, community leaders, and volunteers to make it successful. The show is to be funded by private donations and sponsorships, and will not come out of the airport authority's revenue. Airport Authority Chairman Camvin Thompson said that "all (funding) avenues will need to be explored." A budget for the show is due in February.

Thompson said that the show would be "a huge highlight for this community," which is about 30 miles northwest of Atlanta.
