Fake Airplane Crash Sets 20th Century Fox Back Nearly $4 Million

Cinematographer Injured By Fiberglass Model Used For Special Effects

Ciaran Barry claimed he was injured when he was hit by an 800 pound fiberglass airplane model during a remake of the movie "Flight of the Phoenix" in 2004 in Namibia, and Tuesday, an LA jury agreed, awarding Barry $3.95 million in damages.

This despite the fact that Barry continued working. According to the movie website IMdB, Barry worked on "The Omen," "Becoming Jane," and many episodes of "Rough Diamond."

Still, according to the LA Weekly blog, Barry asked for the large award to compensate him for the loss of  "past and future income" as well as "emotional distress."

It is not knows whether 20th Century Fox or the production company, Flight Productions Inc., will appeal the decision.

Anybody taking side bets?
