Holding Hearing Wednesday On Implementation Of FAA Reform Act
Subcommittee on Aviation Chairman Frank LoBiondo (R-NJ) will hold a hearing on Wednesday to focus on the FAA's progress in implementing the FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012, following the one-year anniversary of the measure being signed into law. This will be the first hearing of the Subcommittee in the 113th Congress, as well as LoBiondo’s (pictured) first as Aviation Chairman.
FAA Administrator Michael Huerta will testify at the hearing, which is scheduled to begin at 1030 EST on Wednesday, February 27. “The FAA Modernization and Reform Act provided a valuable framework to help improve, modernize and streamline our aviation system,” LoBiondo said. “As the FAA moves forward in implementing the FAA Reform Act, the Subcommittee will remain diligent in its oversight of the agency’s progress.”
On February 14, 2012, the President signed into law the FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012 (P.L. 112-95). This measure focused on reforming federal aviation programs and modernizing the United States aviation system, including a number of provisions and new requirements related to improving safety, enhancing passenger service, and strengthening accountability and metrics for the development of a Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen).
While the FAA has met some of the statutory deadlines established in the FAA Reform Act, it has missed others. The hearing will examine the status of implementation of the law, as well as the impact the measure has had on the United States aviation system and industry.
