Enviro Group Leader Challenges Sir Richard Branson At Rio+20

CFACT Director Craig Rucker Presses On EU-ETS

The director of the environmental activist group CFACT, the Committee For A Constructive Tomorrow, reportedly challenged Virgin-everything CEO Sir Richard Branson on his stance on the EU-ETS during the recently-completed Rio+20 environmental summit.

The National Review reports that Branson had just attended a Greenpeace news conference at the summit when he was challenged by CFACT director Craig Rucker on his stance on the EU-ETS. Asked directly if he favored the carbon tax on his airplanes which fly between the U.S. and other non-EU countries and European destinations, he said he would prefer "an international tax rather than just one area of the world."

But Branson also reportedly said that "we're running out of oil, so we need to move into clean fuels as soon as possible," in response to a question from Rucker about the waning support for the hypothesis of human-caused global warming. As many as 31,000 natural scientists have added their names to a statement disputing that human causes are responsible for catastrophic global warming.

Branson was reportedly escorted quickly away from the exchange by his people.
