Aero-TV At SnF21: Bristell on Steroids... Taking on The Rotax 915iS

Lou Mancuso Extols The Virtues of Cramming a Rotax 915iS Into The Bristell LSA

Back in the early days of aviation, it became evident that there was rarely an airframe that wouldn’t benefit from more power... and the two-seat, side by side, Bristell LSA is no exception. After building a heck of a rep with the smaller Rotaxes, Bristell’s design team not only fitted a 915iS to the best... but they did so while still keeping it eligible for flight as a Light-Sport Aircraft. Bristell’s Lou Mancuso (who unabashedly goes by the name of the ‘Landing Doctor’) is (to say the least) an enthusiastic fan of t

Drone Camera Filmed Italian Arsonist, Arrest Made

Firefighters Use Drones To Fight Fires, And Catch Who Started Them

A drone camera caught an arsonist in the act of starting a forest fire, in Montesarchio, Italy about 30 miles NE of Naples. He is depicted in the video lighting the fire with a cigarette lighter before walking away. An unnamed suspect was arrested nearby and described by Police as a 50 year old sheep and goat farmer. Firefighters put the fire out the same day after it destroyed about 5 acres of pasture and woods. Italy has had more forest fires than usual this year due to very dry conditions in forests and grasslands. Roberto Cingolani, a physicist who is Italy's minister for ecological transition, told his nation's parliament on Aug. 5 that people start "more than 70 percent of th

AD: Leonardo S.p.a. Helicopters

AD 2021-16-06 Prompted By The Determination That Additional Parts May Be Susceptible To The Unsafe Condition

The FAA is superseding Airworthiness Directive (AD) 2020-19-11 for certain Leonardo S.p.a. Model A119 and AW119 MKII helicopters. AD 2020-19-11 required repetitive borescope inspections of the 90-degree tail rotor gearbox (TGB) and depending on the inspection results, removing the TGB from service. This AD was prompted by the determination that additional parts may be susceptible to the unsafe condition. This AD retains the inspection requirements of AD 2020-19-11, and revises the compliance time and applicability. The FAA is issuing this AD to address the unsafe condition on these products. This AD is effective September 27, 2021.

AD 2019-12-05 required replacement of the affected rotating air HPT front seal with a part eligible for installation. This AD was prompted by cracks found in the rotating air HPT front seal. This AD requires replacement of affected rotating air HPT front seals installed on CFM CFM56-5B, CFM56-5C, and CFM56-7B model turbofan engines that have fewer cycles since being reconfigured than the engines affected by AD 2019-12-05. This AD also requires CFM56
