Airbus has selected 100 student teams from across five continents to go to the next round of the 2013 Fly Your Ideas challenge. Of these, 49 per cent are from the Asia Pacific region, 37 per cent from Europe, 8 per cent from the the Americas, 3 per cent from Africa and 3 per cent from Middle East.

It's pretty well known that alcohol and airplanes are a deadly combination. In October, a pilot who was asked to leave a bar in Soldotna, AK, told the taxi driver called by his friend and fellow pilot that he was going to sleep in his PA-18 rather than a local hotel. But according to the NTSB's factual report on the accident, the student pilot, who was reported to be intoxicated, apparently decided to try to return to his home airport in Palmer rather than sleep in the plane. He and the Super Cub have been missing since October 13.

Fundraising Campaign For Spare Engine Continuing

The Commemorative Air Force’s (CAF) famous Boeing B-29 Superfortress bomber, FIFI, which is the only remaining flying example of the aircraft in the world, returned to the sky Saturday, January 13 and flew to her home base in Addison, Texas. The flight crew arrived in Midland, Texas and conducted a successful maintenance flight followed by the one and a half hour trip.

NASA has officially joined ESA’s Euclid mission, a space telescope designed to investigate the mysterious natures of dark matter and dark energy. To be launched in 2020, Euclid’s 1.2 m-diameter telescope and two scientific instruments will map the shape, brightness and 3D distribution of two billion galaxies covering more than a third of the whole sky and looking back over three-quarters of the history of the Universe.

A fit check of the GBU-53/B Small Diameter Bomb II on the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter aircraft has been successfully completed by the USAF and Raytheon Company. During the test, four SDB II shapes were loaded into an F-35 weapon bay alongside an Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missile. Sweeps of the inboard and outboard bay doors verified there was adequate clearance between the two weapons.

Obviously, as a general aviation pilot, my perfect airplane doesn’t need to adhere to the high speed, high gross weight, and high altitude standards of a corporate jet or commercial airliner. It doesn’t need to do aerobatics. I don’t want my senses (sight, sound, and smell) impeded or restricted by the aircraft either. It just needs to be a highly utilitarian aircraft that allows you to experience the full sensuality of flight.
