HAI estimates hundreds of attendees at EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh Wisconsin visited the HAI Heli-Center on opening day of AirVenture 2011.

"Rise Above" Traveling Exhibit Features Two Documentaries About The Groundbreaking Pilots

The Commemorative Air Force (CAF) Red Tail Squadron has come to AirVenture to introduce a new educational tool, the Rise Above Traveling Exhibit. It can be found near the CAF Red Tail Squadron Booth at the ConocoPhillips Plaza. The initiative includes a traveling theatre, with a 180 degree screen, housed in a brand new customized 53 foot trailer with expandable sides that can comfortably accommodate an audience of 30 people.

Australian Manufacturer Builds A 10-Place Utility Airplane

Finally! The first time I saw the GippsAERO GA8, the first thing I though was “that airplane needs a turbine!” GrippsAERO is developing a big brother to the GA8 and has named the project the GA10. GippsAERO and Rolls-Royce signed an agreement Wednesday to supply the Rolls-Royce M250-B17F/2 engine for the GA-10 ten passenger airplane.

The EFC900X Developed For Evolution Aircraft

Lancair International has rolled out a new avionics suite for the Evolution Aircraft. Equipped since its inception with Garmin Avionics centered around the G900X system, the only thing missing was the integrated flight control provided by the certified GFC 700 Autopilot. Now, for the first time in the experimental market, this level of autopilot is available in the Evolution by Lancair.

New Engine Option For For The Top Of The Line Rotorcraft

Jim Fields, the head bee at Aeroworks International, manufacturers of the Honey Bee Gyroplane, said Tuesday that the 2-place Honey Bee is now going to be supplied with the GM Ecotec 4-cylinder inline engine. The engine is rated at 200 hp but it will be reduced to 180 hp for the Honey Bee 2-place.

Blackhawk ... the modification company, not the helicopter ... recently certified the XP42A upgrade on the Cessna Caravan with the FAA. The upgrade installs an 850 shp PT6A-42 with a new engine warranty. It also installs a new carbon composite, frakes exhaust stacks and a Hartzell 100” four blade propeller.

FAA Administrator Randy Babbitt made his third appearance at AirVenture as head of the regulatory agency, and in many ways gave the same speech as he has the past two years. Some of the issues have changed. Babbitt called on Congress to "immediately pass a clean extension" of the continuing resolution which has kept the agency open since 2007, and to pass a long-term funding bill for the agency.

Over 200 teachers from as far as Chevak, Alaska came to the Founders Wing at the EAA AirVenture Museum to attend an event called “Teachers Day”. The event is intended to inspire educators to appreciate the value of aviation as an education tool and provide examples of resources that can be brought to the classroom. Teachers at all grade levels (K-12) from across the United States were invited to participate at no charge.

High-End Kit For A 5-6 Place Carbon/Kevlar Helo

Composite Helicopter, a New Zealand company, introduced their new kit helicopter at AirVenture this week.The KC-518 Adventourer kit helicopter is a high-end kit. The company states that it carries 5-6 people, has 36 cu ft of baggage space, cruises at 135 kts, carries up to 141 gal. of fuel, and has a 1450 lb. useful load with a direct operating cost of approximately $125 per hour.

Kitfox Series 7 Super Sport Receives FAA 51% Approval

National Kit Evaluation Team Completes Evaluation

The FAA's National Kit Evaluation Team (NKET) recently concluded its evaluation of the Kitfox Series 7 Super Sport Aircraft. In a letter dated July 21, 2011, Terry Allen, manager of the FAA Production and Airworthiness Division, stated that the Evaluation Team determined that the kit will "allow an amateur builder to meet the major portion requirement of Title 14, Code of Federal Regulations part 21, Certification Procedures for Products and Parts, § 21.191(g)," known as the "51-percent" requirement to register the aircraft as Amateur-Built - Experimental.
