Sebring '08: Cirrus Begins Taking Orders For SRS

$5,000 Deposit Will Hold Your Position When Deliveries Start

The gang at Cirrus Design took nearly everyone by surprise in 2007, when they unveiled the Cirrus SRS, adding yet another dimension to the very popular line of SR aircraft. Thursday morning at the Sport-Aviation Expo in Sebring, FL, Cirrus announced the company is taking orders for the sporty SRS.

The US$5,000 deposits will be taken during Sport-Aviation Expo and via the Cirrus website.

Dale Klapmeier, Vice Chairman and co-founder of Cirrus stated, “The response to the SRS has been simply amazing. EAA AirVenture confirmed for us that the SRS has its own place in the Cirrus line and we are pleased to begin offering people the opportunity to place an order for the SRS.”

Cirrus says the philosophy behind the SRS is based on "the sheer fun of flying in an airplane that incorporates the very best of Cirrus’ ideology in airplane engineering."

“With aircraft like the SRS, the industry has a wonderful opportunity to open aviation to a whole new segment of people. We need to grow this industry,” Klapmeier added.

The company expects the entry level SRS to attract the younger crowd because of its fun factor, and at the same time provide an extremely economical price point for those Generation X’ers who are very technology savvy. Flight schools also gain access to a Cirrus-driven product with the company’s core values of safety, comfort, and ease of operation and in the SRS’ case, spritely performance.

To date, Cirrus reports overwhelming interest domestically and internationally in the SRS. Cirrus Vice President of Sales, John Gauch, commented, “This is a wonderful aircraft that delivers customers a fun, safe airplane. We are pleased to begin offering customers the opportunity to begin the purchasing process.”

While not a homegrown Cirrus aircraft -- as ANN reported last year, Cirrus will instead adapt an existing aircraft, the German-built Fk Polaris, to LSA requirements -- it will be hard to mistake the SRS for anything other than a Cirrus plane. In addition to an expected glass-panel, the SRS will also come equipped standard with the much-applauded Cirrus Airframe Parachute System.

Deliveries of the SRS are expected to begin in 2009.
