AFSS Personnel Set Briefing Record At Oshkosh

Onsite Specialists Handled Over 8,800 Briefings

With so many pilots flying into and out of Oshkosh, WI recently for AirVenture 2007, it stands to reason those pilots needed briefings, and to file flight plans.

Representatives with Lockheed Martin tell ANN 30 specialists combined to provide more than 8,800 briefings to pilots at AirVenture -- an increase of 11% over the 2006 show totals.

In addition, specialists filed 768 flight plans.

"Oshkosh is a unique opportunity for us to service so many pilots face-to-face in such a short period of time," said Dan Courain, AFSS program manager. "Our team considers it an honor to be at Oshkosh each year and the dialog between our briefers and the flying public is educational for both. While the weather was predominantly VFR this year, we were able to provide valuable advice locally when some major storms popped up and along routes of flight across the US."

Lockheed Martin specialists briefed pilots from the main central facility and two remote trailers located at the north and south ends of the field. Briefers were available to pilots from 6:00am until 8:00pm at night.

In addition to one-on-one briefings, specialists provided separate briefings to groups of aerobatic pilots, warbird pilots and other show performers.
