First Flight: Diamond DA50 Magnum

Successful Maiden Flight Conducted In Wiener Neustadt

The Diamond DA50 program has taken a solid step toward success. On May, 14th 2008 the first DA50 Magnum took off for the very first time. Christian Dries, CEO and owner of Diamond Aircraft flew the aircraft as pilot in command assisted by Soeren Pedersen as chief test pilot.

This Diamond DA50 Magnum is equipped with the Austro Engines AE 300 Jet A1 Piston Engine with Single Lever Control System.

After landing Christian Dries expressed his pride in the new aircraft and noted that he was impressed by the handling characteristics. "I didn't know that such a big aircraft is able to fly with high speed and at the same time with low fuel consumption", said Dries, "This 'wide-bodied aircraft' sets a further milestone regarding luxury, comfort and economy in the General Aviation."

Dries also thanked vice CEO Manfred Zipper and his team for their efforts. The DA50 Magnum project was realised within nine months of conception. The spacious 4-seater aircraft with a MTOW of 3263 lbs. 'was developed for the demanding pilot, who flies long distance without payload restrictions.'

Diamond Aircraft Industries has production facilities in Austria, Canada and China.
