Diamond's Twin Star Receives Transport Canada Certification

Aero-News learned Tuesday that Transport Canada has issued Type Certificate A-247 for Diamond Aircraft's diesel-powered DA42 Twin Star.

"The DA42 is a phenomenal success, with Twin Stars operating in Europe, the USA, South-East Asia, South Africa and China. We are pleased to add Canada to the list of countries who have certified this innovative and versatile aircraft," said Peter Maurer, President of Diamond Aircraft Industries Canada. "This is especially welcome, since there are many Canadian customers who have been waiting to take delivery of their DA42s."

The twin-Thielert diesel-powered DA42 received its FAA certification in July 2005. Earlier this month, the agency ruled the FADEC-equipped twin meets the standards of a complex aircraft, for the purposes of commercial pilot and flight instructor training.

"The Twin Star’s attributes make it ideal for many missions, including advanced flight training, private flying and special applications as a sensor platform," Maurer said. "With liquid cooled twin turbo-diesel engines that burn only 12 gph total in cruise, long endurance, and known ice certification, the aircraft is ideally suited to Canadian conditions."

The aircraft also comes standard with a Garmin G1000 glass cockpit, and an all-carbon composite airframe.
