MHD's FAA Certification for EGPWS Interface Adds TAWS
Capability To Lightning Detection and Traffic Features in a '3ATI'
Form Factor
Avidyne has unveiled an
MHD Multi-Hazard Display with Terrain Awareness Warning System
(TAWS) capability, the first color display combining TAWS, traffic
and lightning to fit in a standard (3ATI) avionics panel opening.
Part of Avidyne's growing line of avionics, the MHD is ideal for
installation in space-constrained panels and adds important safety
tools in a highly flexible, compact package to virtually any
general aviation cockpit.
With its recent FAA certification as a TAWS display, the MHD is
compatible with the Honeywell KGP 560, KGP 860, and Mark XXI
Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning Systems (EGPWS). The system also
can function as a traffic display when interfaced with Traffic
Alert Collision Avoidance Systems (TCAS I), Avidyne TAS600 Series
or other Traffic Advisory Systems (TAS) and Mode S Traffic
Information Systems (TIS). The MHD also displays lightning
information from the L-3 WX-500 Stormscope system and is available
with an optional DME display for added functionality.
Developed by Avidyne's Columbus, OH-based Safety Systems Group,
the MHD has a full-color, high-resolution active matrix LCD that is
easy to read and interpret. The MHD also is available in a night
vision goggle (NVG)-compatible version for military, law
enforcement and other applications. Earlier versions of the MHD
have been particularly popular in helicopters and corporate
aircraft where there is a strong need for a safety-sensor display
and panel space is at a premium.
"Flexibility and affordability are the key benefits of the MHD
for both aircraft owners and dealers," said Mark Sandeen, vice
president of sales and marketing at Avidyne.
"There are a large number of aircraft with limited panel space
that can benefit from the situational awareness tools and enhanced
safety that come from a multi-function display. The MHD is an ideal
solution for those aircraft."
