Yet Another Old Russian Plane Feared Down In Africa

As Many As 48 Feared Dead

A Russian-made Antonov AN-32 is missing and feared down in Equatorial Guinea, as local authorities mount a frantic search and rescue effort.

The AN-32, owned by a local company called Equatair, dropped off radar screens Saturday, shortly after departing Malabo (the capital) for Bata.

Military aircraft and ground teams were searching for signs of the aircraft.

It appears to be the latest in a series of African mishaps involving aging Russian-made aircraft. Most recently, as ANN reported in real-time, an AN-12 went down while on a charter flight in the Sudan. That was May 25th, less than three weeks after yet another Antonov crashed in the Central Congo, killing all 26 on board.
