PIA Fokker Accident Claims 45

Gov't Says Terrorism Not A Consideration

For the second time in two days, a passenger plane is down... killing everyone onboard.

Local media reports say the Pakistan International Airlines Fokker F-27 turboprop went down Monday in a wheat field within minutes after taking off from the eastern Pakistani town of Multan, bound for Lahore.

Witnesses say the plane seemed to enter a flat spin, before abruptly descending into the field.

"All 41 passengers and four crew members on board the plane have died," said Iftikhar Babar, the district coordination officer for Multan.

Malik Bashir, PIA’s station manager at Multan airport, said the cause of the crash was not yet known -- but quickly ruled out the possibility of a terrorist attack on the plane.

It's the third accident for Pakistan International Airlines since 1989... the second involving a Fokker aircraft.
