Sporty’s VP Earns Unique Scouting Award

Mark Wiesenhahn Earn's Boy Scout's Silver Beaver Honor

Mark Wiesenhahn, Vice President of Sporty’s, was presented the Boy Scouts of America Silver Beaver award on March 25, 2009. The Silver Beaver Award recognizes Mark’s continued service to the community through programs of the Boy Scouts and beyond. Mark received his award at the annual Dan Beard Council Volunteer Recognition Gala in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Mark is an administrative vice president, and works closely with Sporty’s marketing and customer service departments and manages Sporty’s philanthropic programs. Mark also serves as Sporty’s aviation media liaison and has been an employee since 1987.

“Sporty’s has a strong scouting tradition,” said Sporty’s President Michael Wolf. “Five of our employees are Eagle Scouts, including Hal Shevers, our founder and chairman, who is a Distinguished Eagle. We are very proud to see Mark recognized for his dedicated service to the community.”

Sporty’s Pilot Shop tells ANN that it is a proud supporter of the Boy Scouts of America’s Aviation Exploring program, sponsoring Aviation Exploring Post 78 for the last 15 years. Aviation Exploring is a career development program for teenagers with an interest in aviation. Aviation businesses, colleges or organizations interested in teaching local youth about aviation and the many opportunities available are invited to start an Exploring Post.

Youth Aviation Adventure (YAA), a program that brings kids to the airport to learn about aviation in a fast-paced, exciting atmosphere is another program Sporty’s supports to engage young people. A series of nine learning stations, each staffed by pilots, are used to teach kids about a host of aviation topics, including aerodynamics, careers, pre-flight and more. The organized curriculum, developed with the Ohio State University college of education, provides an organized framework for groups interested in hosting a YAA event at their airport.
