Five Receive Master Instructor Designation In September

One Designated A 'Master Emeritus' Last Month

Five instructors have renewed their Master Instructor designation in the month of September, while one was named a "Master Emeritus".

Master Instructors LLC said in a news release that all were accredited as Masters by Master Instructors LLC, the international Master Instructor accrediting authority. All obtained their designation through the Master Instructor "Fluid Review" program online.

Professional aviation educators who earned or renewed their "Master" title during September 2016 are:

Robin Henry "Rob" Lindstrom, Master CFI & Master GI, Huntsville AL

Robin H Lindstrom, a 10-time Master and SAFE member, recently renewed his Master CFI and Master GI accreditations through MI LLC's MICEP program. Rob is the assistant chief flight instructor and a ground instructor with the Redstone Arsenal Flying Activity at Redstone Army Airfield (HUA). He is also an aviation instructor at the University of Alabama in Huntsville and serves as a FAASTeam representative in the FAA's Birmingham FSDO area.  He was one of the first aviation educators to earn the Master designation when the accreditation program was first introduced in 1997 by then-FAA Administrator Barry Valentine at Oshkosh AirVenture.

Donald E Kaye, a 8-time Master and SAFE member, recently renewed his Master CFI accreditation through MI LLC's MICEP program  Specializing in avionics, instrument, recurrency, and complex aircraft training, Don is an independent San Francisco Bay area flight and ground instructor.  Additionally, he serves as a FAASTeam representative in the FAA's San Jose FSDO area.

Michael G Gaffney, a 7-time Master and SAFE member, was recently granted Master Instructor Emeritus (MIE) status through MI LLC's in recognition of his many years of commitment to excellence, professional growth, service to the aviation community, and quality aviation education.  Mike, a global project manager for CAE Oxford Aviation Academy, is serving as general manager for China Southern Airlines Western Australia Flying College in Perth.  The 2007 National CFI of the Year, he has also served as a FAASTeam lead representative in the North Texas (Dallas / Fort Worth) FSDO area.

George P Felix, a 1st-time Master and SAFE member, recently earned his Master CFI accreditation through MI LLC's MICEP program. George owns and operates Felix Flight Services at Crystal Airport (MIC) and several others where he specializes in primary and advanced flight training.  Additionally, he serves as a volunteer Angel Flight Mission Pilot as well as a FAASTeam representative for the Minneapolis FSDO area.

Douglas Carmody, a 5-time Master and SAFE member, recently renewed his Master CFI accreditation through MI LLC's MICEP program.  Doug owns and operates Executive Flight Training  based at Beaufort County Airport (ARW) where he specializes in Citation, King Air, TBM, and Pilatus initial and recurrent training.  Additionally, he is a Citation and CJ pilot proficiency examiner and serves as a FAASTeam representative in the FAA's Columbia (South Carolina) FSDO area.

Raylene B Alexander, a 3-time Master and SAFE member, recently renewed her Master Aviation Educator (MAE) accreditation through MI LLC's MICEP program.  Raylene is an associate professor of aviation maintenance and avionics in Kansas State University's department of aviation technology at Salina Municipal Airport (SAL).  A Marine Corps veteran, she is also active in the University Aviation Association and Women in Aviation.

Many of the most recent National Flight Instructors of the Year or National FAASTeam Representatives of the Year were Master CFIs. In addition, the FAA has approved the accreditation as an alternate means for CFIs to renew their flight instructor certificates.
