Indonesia's Lion Air Makes Largest Order In Boeing History

Has Taken Positions For 380 737 MAX Airplanes. President Obama To Attend Signing

Jakarta-based Lion Air has placed an order for 201 737 MAXs and 29 Next-Generation 737-900 ERs (extended range). The agreement also includes purchase rights for an additional 150 airplanes. Boeing says that with 230 airplanes at a list price of $21.7 billion, this deal when finalized will be the largest commercial airplane order ever in Boeing’s history by both dollar volume and total number of airplanes.

U.S President Barack Obama is scheduled to witness the official announcement at a ceremony Friday morning at the East Asia Summit in Bali, Indonesia.Deliveries of the Boeing 737 MAX are expected to begin in five to six years.

The planemaker also announced Thursday that Singapore Airlines has ordered eight additional 777-300 Extended Range (ER) airplanes. The orders were previously recorded on Boeing's Orders & Deliveries website, attributed to an unidentified customer.

"This order is part of our ongoing fleet expansion and modernization program, which enables us to offer our latest cabin products to our customers," said Goh Choon Phong, chief executive officer for Singapore Airlines (SIA). "The additional 777-300ERs will also help us further strengthen the Singapore Airlines network, providing our customers even more travel options."

The Singapore Airlines order is valued at $2.4 billion at Boeing current list prices. The order was first announced on August 10.

In total, Singapore Airlines has ordered 85 Boeing 777s, 27 of which are 777-300ERs.
