IMC Club Introduces 'Brown Jacket' Instrument Mastery Award

Leather Jacket Will Be Presented To An 'Instrument Master' Each Year Beginning In 2014

A special brown leather flight jacket will be awarded annually to one outstanding General Aviation Instrument Pilot for his or her safety, proficiency and contributions in helping other pilots in their quest to “Master the Art of Instrument Navigation.” This recognition will be a prestigious award similar to the “Green Jacket” award in professional golf.

The award recognizes excellence in areas of flight proficiency, continuing education and service to the aviation community. It is open to all IMC Club pilot members and will be presented each year starting in 2014.

In addition to the “Instrument Master” leather flight jacket, the winner will receive a top of the line new S1 Digital general aviation headset specially developed for pilots of single and twin-engine propeller aircraft. The headset features the new Digital Adaptive NoiseGard system, and has been donated by the newest Platinum Corporate member of the IMC Club International – Sennheiser.

“The ‘Live Your Dream’ initiative creates flight training opportunities for aspiring aviators and Sennheiser Aviation is proud to partner with the IMC Club on our shared belief that safety and proficiency are developed through education and experience.”

“Private pilots recognize that their license is a license to learn, and those that commit to continuing their training have the unique opportunity to demonstrate the difference between currency and proficiency to their fellow pilots.” – said Christian Pulm, Head of Global Marketing & Strategy Development for Sennheiser.

"Sennheiser Aviation believes in the mission of the IMC Clubs and we look forward to helping recognize those general aviation pilots who demonstrate the highest standards of instrument flying proficiency with the Brown Jacket Award.  We know these pilots will serve as exceptional mentors for our scholarship recipients and motivate them to continue to live their dream through aviation." – added Mr. Pulm.

“We are creating an award that is going to allow instrument pilots to compete on the basis of safety, common sense and self improvement, as well as participating in helping other pilots. It is my sincere desire that this award will recognize the value and add to the prestige of those who master instrument flying. The Brown Jacket award will become an integral part of what our IMC Club’s Mission is all about. I especially want to say “Thank You” to Sennheiser for allowing us make this project possible” – said Radek Wyrzykowski, President of the IMC Club International.

The award identifies and publicly recognizes those pilots who demonstrate an ongoing commitment to excellence, professional growth, and service to the aviation community, while setting standards to which all instrument pilots can aspire. The Brown Jacket designation is awarded annually to one individual only. Selection of the award recipient includes evaluating a pilot’s continuing aviation activity.
