Redbird Flight Simulations is revolutionizing the use of full-motion simulators in all stages of aviation training. In this video we see another side of simulation that has been around in some forms but Redbird has brought it to a level of professional usability. Most of us think of this as “tabletop simulation.”
ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell talks with Charlie Gregoire about their new TD2 simulator. The TD2 is actually not a tabletop unit but is part of a lightweight, non-motion structure that allows the pilot to have real airplane controls situated in a manner to simulate the cockpit. The flight instruments and external viewing is all provided by video simulation.
The TD2 offers expansion capability to include 3 video screens. It also allows more than one aircraft configuration. It has the capability using real airport data and approach plate data coupled with the visual. This means that it is perfect for practicing actual instrument approaches at real airports.
There is so much neat stuff about the TD2 that the only way to understand its capabilities is to watch this video. It can be of value to a flight school for primary training or to a qualified pilot to retain proficiency or prepare for a new airport. This video is a must see.
