Barnstorming: Stoking The Fire… ANN's ‘AirVenture Innovation Preview'

The Aviation Industry Is A Poor Communicator, And An Even Poorer Marketing Machine… ANN Is Working To Raise The Bar

The state of aviation marketing and communications is just plain awful… the bad state of the aero-communications capabilities of this industry is just ONE reason for the lackluster position too many companies find themselves in, in this business.

We’re sick of it, and as part of a number of ongoing initiatives, the Aero-News Network, Aero-TV, Airborne Unlimited, Airborne Partnership Initiative, and the incomparable EAA are working together to do something instructive, innovative, and disruptive.

It is our intention to jumpstart an evolutionary/revolutionary process whereby we can coach, tutor, encourage, empower, and inspire many in this industry do a better job of promoting aviation and themselves. Aviation, for all its faults and issues, is still one of the most fascinating pursuits known to mankind... and it's about time we learned to promote it that way.

Setting The Tone:

The Staff of the Aero-News Network and the Experimental Aircraft Association are pleased to announce the First Generation Debut of the AirVenture Innovation Preview for Oshkosh2015.

As anyone in aviation knows, the aero-world, or the “Aero-Verse” as we call it, pretty much revolves around Oshkosh each summer and no small number of companies and products owe their livelihoods and existence to the opportunities that AirVenture provides.

That being said, the big question is... are we maximizing the capabilities and potential of AV in all the ways we might... and if not, how can we do so?

Well... we've been inspired to raise the bar higher than ever before... and then KEEP ON RAISING IT -- to the point where we have developed a heck of an idea and are actually going through with the darned thing...

OK... here’s Phase One (of MUCH more to come) of a program based, in part, on some highly successful endeavors undertaken both inside and outside the aviation community (mostly by AEA's NPI)... something we call the “AirVenture Innovation Preview.”

What It Is:

The AIP is a massive news teaser... an invitation to build serious BUZZ, and promote all the amazing innovations that make Oshkosh one of the most outstanding examples of ingenuity and aero-entrepreneurialism, period.

Over the course of a few hours, on the Saturday preceding AirVenture 2015, a number of carefully screened companies will have the chance to participate in an expertly produced online news program, produced by Aero-TV and in cooperation with EAA, that will whet the whistle of the aviation population with 20-30 SHORT, 3-5 minute online multi-media presentations offering a glimpse into what will be REALLY NEW at Oshkosh this year.

The multi-hour program will be distributed by EAA, ANN, Aero-TV (and others too be named shortly) and will be made available to a number of media outlets for distribution in the hours before the advent of OSH15 in order to build greater anticipation, ‘BUZZ’ and to further cement AirVenture as the centerpoint of aviation innovation in the ‘Aero-Verse.’

The entire AIP will be posted and distributed to dozens of venues and syndication venues starting late Saturday afternoon/early evening and will be available, in perpetuity, on ANN, EAA, YouTube, Vimeo and other outlets.

Additionally; following OSH15, each AIP segment will be posted individually, to a unique AIP channel on YouTube (and other venues) for future viewing, linkage and use.

The Rules:

  • AIP Participation is offered ONLY to AirVenture Exhibitors/Sponsors.
  • Each AIP applicant’s submission will be screened by EAA/ANN for suitable, innovative, content and eligibility prior to confirming any specific AIP reservation.
  • AIP segments will only be granted to those entities, companies, programs or products that are announcing previously undisclosed news and information of value to the aviation community. No previously announced/published programs are likely to be approved, though significant updates and substantive progress reports on same are permissible.
  • NO competitor bashing (even if it’s true... grin)
  • Each AIP segment must contain 3-5 minutes of AV content. No more than 5 minutes, total, is allowed.
  • Each company/participant MUST request participation no less than 30 days prior to the event.
  • AIP presenter MUST own or have clear, documented, legal use of copyrighted materials used in Powerpoint, video and/or audio content.
  • One presentation will be permitted per innovator, but that presentation may discuss more than one innovative announcement, product, program or unveiling.
  • ANN, the producing party, will warrant and preserve a news embargo on all received intellectual content up to the publication date and time agreed to by both parties, tentatively scheduled for 1800 CT, July 18th, 2015. As usual, though, if information has been otherwise disclosed by a non-ANN news party, however, it becomes fair game as news content for our news programming.
  • Participants must submit HD resolution visual programs, with audio, in complete or editable form that includes all or a combination of the following: Video, Powerpoint/Audio, Graphics and Audio.
  • There will be a limited opportunity on Friday, July 17th and Saturday, July 18th, at ANN’s on-site Wittman Field headquarters to record complete 3”-5” AIP segments in our onsite studio--by appointment only. This is probably the fastest/easiest way (but not necessarily the best) to produce a suitable AIP segment.
  • Editing assistance for AIP segments is available from ANN, by reservation, and at direct cost (if any). Please note that such assistance is limited by resources already strained by the fact that ANN and EAA have a LOT to do at OSH15 this year... the sooner you tell us what you need, the more likely we are to not only be able to get it done... but to do so in a way that is as satisfactory as possible, to all concerned. In other words, if you want the best possible results, let’s get it done early and not be in a last-minute panic/rush.

There will be MUCH more info to follow… and there is already a waiting list established for positions (as EAA actually announced this a few days) – but if you want to read the full EAA announcement and some other details, click here and contact us right away… waiting list slots are First-Come/First Served and we’re already pruning down the reservations to make sure that ALL final applicants meet the specs we laid out at the beginning.

Also; ANN invites inquiries from all aviation and non-related media outlets for access to the AIP video feed... we're going to be VERY non-parochial about this and are more interested in the widest possible distribution and the positive promotion of EAA/AirVenture/Oshkosh above most other concerns.
