Airborne 04.22.16: MH370 Debris Report, Solar Impulse 2, Expired Trump Plane

It’s been just over two years since Malaysian Airlines Flight MH 370 disappeared, and the Australian government has taken the lead in the search to find a definitive answer to the question of what happened to that airplane.

It’s reported that on December 27, 2015 and February 27, 2016, two items of debris were independently found, approximately 137 miles apart, on the Mozambique coast. Both items were delivered to the relevant Civil Aviation Authorities in Mozambique and South Africa in early March 2016. Assistance from the Australian Transport Safety Bureau was requested by the Malaysian Government in the formal identification of the items. Now, The Australian Transportation Safety Bureau says that these two pieces of debris, are "almost certainly" from MH370, the Malaysian Airlines 777 that went missing on March 8, 2014. The flight of the sun powered Solar Impulse 2 aircraft to show the world that it is possible to fly around the world powered only by solar energy started in Abu Dhabi on March 9, 2015. After successfully flying as far as the Hawaiian Islands, technical difficulties grounded the airplane nine months ago. Now, yesterday, April 21, the flight has continued. Among the airplanes in Republican frontrunner Donald Trump's fleet of aircraft is a 1997 Citation X that has become a fixture on the campaign trail, particularly at smaller airports that are unable to accommodate his Boeing 757. But the registration on the airplane lapsed on January 31 ... making it technically illegal to fly the airplane. Technically in terms of someone being subject to fines and potential jail time. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
