In remarks at a Caribbean tourism event in Curacao, JetBlue CEO Robin Hayes raised a warning that high taxes and other fees may have travelers not choosing certain destinations in the Caribbean for their vacations.
According to reports, the Government of Bermuda increased airport taxes and charges from $35 to $50 in March, and then boosted the "departure tax" again in August to $78, which includes a $16 airport improvement fee. Bermuda ranks second only to Jamaica as having the highest taxes and fees for JetBlue passengers traveling from JFK Airport in New York, according to Hayes. We all watched in amazement, and possibly a little amusement, when a JLENS aerostat came loose from its mooring and drifted north from Aberdeen proving ground last week. However, that mishap brought no amusement to the people that have been criticizing the expensive program that detractors say has not lived up to its potential. BAE Systems has made a strategic investment in Reaction Engines Limited and announced a working collaboration to accelerate Reaction Engines’ development of SABRE – a new aerospace engine. Reaction Engines is developing the technologies needed for an advanced combined cycle air-breathing rocket
engine called a Synergetic Air-Breathing Rocket Engine. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
