Airborne 02.17.14: Santa Monica Safe... For Now, Pipistrel's 600th, AEA2014 News

A Federal Judge has ruled in favor of the position advocated by the Federal Aviation Administration, namely that Santa Monica city’s challenge to the FAA requirement that Santa Monica Airport continue to be a publicly-accessible airport was untimely, and dismissed the case.

The 600th airplane from Pipistrel's Sinus and Virus family of aircraft has been completed and rolled out of the company's production facility. Pipistrel has produced, together with other aircraft models and powered hang-gliders, well over 1200 different aircraft. The rejection of a 10-year contract by the American Eagle pilot's Master Executive Council (MEC) leaves the main airline with "no choice but to begin looking for another regional carrier," according to a letter sent to all Eagle employees.
