Texas National Guard Airborne Unit To Conduct Training

Urges Citizens Not To Be Alarmed By The Activity

The Texas National Guard Airborne unit will conduct a training operation on Saturday near the North Texas Regional Airport in Grayson County, TX (KGYI).

In a news release, the unit says that soldiers from the 36th Infantry Division will be practicing airfield seizure operations, which is a standard training requirement. During the exercise, the soldiers will be carrying standard issue weapons for training purposes, but no live, training, or blank ammunition will be fired.

The event is closed to the public. The release says that residents living in the vicinity of the airport "should not be alarmed of the increase in military activities." The training event will include several aspects, including "low flying U.S. Air Force aircraft, soldiers parachuting onto the airport, and tactical military vehicles in the area. Additionally, all aircraft and training operations will be done in accordance with FAA standards."

The airport is expected to be closed from 9:30 until noon Saturday, though those times are subject to revision. Pilots are urged to check NOTAMS before planning flights to, from, or in the vicinity of the airport Saturday.
