Human Remains Suggest Explosion On EgyptAir Flight 804

But The Cause Of Any Explosion, If It Occurred, Is Still Not Known

An Egyptian forensic official who claims to have had access to the remains of passengers who were aboard EgyptAir Flight 804 says that the condition of those remains suggest that the plane was brought down by an explosion.

The official, who was not authorized to speak to the media, said that there are some 80 pieces of human remains that have been recovered so far, and all are small. "There isn't even a whole body part, like an arm or a head," the official said.

The logical conclusion is that it was an explosion, but "I cannot say what caused the blast," the official told the Associated Press Tuesday.

One independant Cairo newspaper ... al-Watan ... quoted an anonymous forensic official on Tuesday who said the plane blew up in midair, but it was not known why.

A multinational effort is continuing to find the A320s Cockpit Voice and Data recorders. Ships and planes from the U.S., France, Greece, Britain and Cyprus are all participating. The water where the plane went down is as much as 10,000 feet deep.

Meanwhile, the head of Egypt's state-run Air Traffic Control service told the AP that the plane had not swerved or radically changed course before it disappeared from radar, as had been previously reported. Ehab Azmy said that the airplane had entered Egypt's Flight Information Region and "there was no turning to the right or left, and it was fine when it entered Egypt's FIR, which took nearly a minute or two before it disappeared."

The defense minister of Greece had reported that the plane has swerved widely and lost 10,000 feet of altitude before it vanished from radar.
