FlightPrep Suffers Security Breach

Some Personal Data Accessed From The Site

An e-mail forwarded to ANN by a reader indicates that FlightPrep has suffered a software security breach, and the personal data of some of its customers has been compromised.

According to the e-mail, the names, e-mail addresses, and passwords of some customers were compromised by the hacker. FlightPrep Marketing Director Travis Cannon confirmed the breach to ANN in a telephone conversation Friday. He would not say how many customers have been affected.

Cannon says that the company has "re-written a lot of code" to make it more secure. In the e-mail, the company asks customers to change their FlightPrep passwords, as well as the password in any other application (email, websites or others) that may have used the same login information combination. They indicate that FlightPrep will never ask for a credit card number or other personally identifiable information via e-mail, which is common in phishing scams. They also urge caution when opening links or attachments from unknown third parties.
