Expedition 13 Off!

ANN REALTIME REPORTING 03.29.06 2130 EST: Expedition 13 Commander Pavel Vinogradov, Flight Engineer Jeff Williams, and Brazil's first astronaut Marcos Pontes launched moments ago aboard a Soyuz rocket from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, bound for a Friday rendezvous with the International Space Station.

The combined Expedition 12 and 13 crews will be aboard the ISS for nine days, before Expedition 12 commander Bill McArthur and Flight Engineer Valery Tokarev, and Pontes undock from the station and land in Kazakhstan April 8.

After that, the Expedition 13 crew will get to work aboard the ISS... anticipating the July arrival of NASA's space shuttle Discovery. STS-121 will bring the third member of the Expedition 13 crew to the station: European Space Agency (ESA) Astronaut Thomas Reiter. It will be the first time a three-person crew has been aboard the ISS since May 2003.
