AeroSports Update: EAA’s 'Give Flight' Project Needs Volunteers

Wings Will Be Built For The ‘Give Flight' Project At EAA AirVenture, And Zenith Is Asking For Volunteers

Project 'Give Flight' will focus on constructing five sets of wings for various types of kit-built aircraft. The goal is to give those completed wing sets to five different EAA chapters to jumpstart five different building projects in hopes it will lead to the formation of five different flying clubs.

The volunteer-based project will occur at the main crossroads of the EAA AirVenture grounds on Celebration Way, the same location where the ‘One Week Wonder’ was put together. Volunteers will construct the wings on each of the seven days of the convention and, like last year, anyone who walks by can participate by pulling a rivet (or two!).

Three top kit companies were chosen to partner with EAA for the Give Flight project during EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2015. Three of the five sets of wings will be for Zenith kit aircraft: two Zenith CH 750 Cruzer wings and one Zenith CH 650 (along with one set each for Sonex and Van's Aircraft wings).

"We're excited and privileged to be involved with the Give Flight project,” stated Zenith Aircraft Company president Sebastien Heintz. “Last year we successfully completed one aircraft in a week. This year we'll be substantially starting three new aircraft builds with the construction of the wings! I invite everyone to get involved to learn and lend us a hand!"

Zenith Aircraft Company, the presenting sponsor of EAA's Give Flight wings project, is seeking volunteers to help with the construction of six wings (three wing sets) during the week-long Oshkosh convention.

What’s needed is experienced kit builders (especially ones with Zenith kit experience) that want to help the Give Flight project by spending a day or two of their AirVenture experience helping to build Zenith wings at the Give Flight tent. It’s in the same location where the One Week Wonder was put together in 2014. They are looking for people who are enthusiastic and ready to work, and who can help build six Zenith wings.

This is a great opportunity to share your love of the exciting and rewarding world of homebuilding. If you're interested in learning more about building your own all-metal aircraft, you’re also welcome to join in on the project.

EAA is also seeking Homebuilding Ambassadors to talk to visitors and answer questions about the project and homebuilding in general.

Volunteering is a great way to share your love of homebuilding and to get more involved with AirVenture, make new friends, and have fun. The Give Flight project is simply a great volunteer opportunity!
