Paul Anderson Elected To Serve As Chair

The Board of Directors of the NBAA have elected Paul Anderson, of UTFlight, as chairman, succeeding Ron Duncan, of General Communications, Inc., and Lloyd “Fig” Newton, of L-3 Communications Holdings, was elected NBAA’s new vice chairman/treasurer. Additionally, two directors were re-elected by the association's voting members for three-year terms expiring in 2018.

The elections were held during NBAA’s Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (NBAA2015).

Paul Anderson is the vice president of UTFlight, the flight department for United Technologies Corporation, who formerly served as the vice chairman/treasurer for NBAA’s Board of Directors. Previously, he held several positions in a customer-service role with UTC company Sikorsky Aircraft. Anderson graduated from West Point in 1981, and served for five years in the U.S. Army as a helicopter maintenance officer and pilot, and received an MBA from the University of New Haven. He holds a private pilot’s license for fixed-wing aircraft, a helicopter ATP, and is a Master Army Aviator, including ratings in several military and civilian helicopters. Anderson joined the NBAA board in 2007.

Lloyd "Fig" Newton retired in 2000 from the United States Air Force as a four-star general. Serving for more than three decades, Newton flew 269 combat missions in Vietnam, flew with the U.S. Air Force Demonstration Team “The Thunderbirds,” served as a congressional liaison to the U.S. House of Representatives for the Air Force and led the Air Education and Training Command, which consisted of 13 bases, 43,000 active duty personnel and 14,000 civilians. After leaving the Air Force, Newton worked at Pratt & Whitney as executive vice president of international military programs and business development until 2006. In addition to L-3 Communications Holdings, Newton serves on the boards of Torchmark Corporation and the National Defense University. He joined the NBAA board in 2010.

Elected to three-year terms as directors were William Ayer of Honeywell and Scott Moore of Luck Companies.

William Ayer began his career as a salesperson with the Piper Aircraft Company, and was the founder of Air Olympia, a regional airline in Washington state. After holding several positions at Horizon Air, he joined Alaska Airlines in 1995, and later became the carrier’s chairman and chief executive officer. He retired from the company at the end of 2013. Ayer is a member of the FAA's Management Advisory Council, and the immediate past chair of the FAA's NextGen Advisory Committee. In addition to Honeywell, he serves on the boards of the University of Washington, the Museum of Flight and the AOPA Foundation. Ayer holds a bachelor's degree from Stanford University and an MBA from the University of Washington. Ayer started flying at the age of 15 and has accumulated more than 4,500 hours of flight time. Ayer joined the NBAA board earlier in 2015.

Scott Moore serves as aviation department manager for Luck Companies, a family-owned, Manakin, VA-based leadership company and provider of stone products. Moore has more than 8,500 hours in 13 different aircraft and 30 years of flight department management and military leadership. He is a Certified Aviation Manager (CAM), a mark of excellence in business aviation management. In addition to his experience in business aviation flying, Moore is a former Air Force command pilot and instructor and a combat veteran with service in Panama, the Gulf War, Kosovo, Afghanistan and Iraq. Moore joined the NBAA board in 2009.
