Score Another One For The Good Guys: Navy Helo Rescues Boater

HSC-28 Rescues Boater

An MH-60S Knighthawk helicopter of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 28 "Dragon Whales" rescued a boater near the mouth of the York River at approximately 2:25 p.m. April 6, as his boat was rapidly taking on water.

The U.S. Coast Guard Group Hampton Roads forwarded the boater's distress call to all available assets in the area. HSC-28 was able to divert a helicopter conducting routine operations to support the rescue. One of the squadron's rescue swimmers was deployed into the water to hook-up a hoist to lift the boater to safety.

The boater was returned to Chambers Field at Naval Station Norfolk and is in good condition.
