Engine Expert, Test Pilot To Speak At Twin Commander University

Helmuth Eggeling Returns To TCU In Bonita Springs, FL

Helmuth Eggeling is the acknowledged expert when it comes to operating Honeywell turbine engines, including the TPE331 that powers all models of turboprop Twin Commanders. Spreading the knowledge about TPE331s is his job-Eggeling is Honeywell's senior turbine-engine Pilot Advisor, meeting with pilot groups to discuss proper engine operation. But Eggeling knows more than engines-he knows airplanes, too. Along with his Pilot Advisor role, Eggeling serves as lead test pilot on Honeywell's Boeing 757 engine test bed aircraft.

A former F-104G fighter pilot for the German air force, Eggeling also has hands-on experience in many facets of commercial piloting including flight instructor and line pilot and chief pilot for regional carriers.

He has been with Honeywell since 1990, serving dual roles as a Pilot Advisor on Honeywell turbine engines, and also as a pilot on Honeywell's Falcon 20, Boeing 720, and current Boeing 757 engine-test aircraft.

Every two years Eggeling brings that broad piloting and engine operation experience and knowledge to the Twin Commander University to talk to owners and operators about best practices when flying TPE331-powered Twin Commanders. Eggeling will be a featured speaker at the tenth Twin Commander University, scheduled for April 28-30 in Bonita Springs, Florida.

At his session on Saturday, April 30, Eggeling will focus on several little-understood aspects of direct-drive turboprop engines including prop shaft decoupling, beta mode verses prop governor, and the power lever flight idle position.

The Twin Commander University is a biennial gathering of Twin Commander owners and operators to discuss hands-on operational, maintenance, and acquisition issues. Twin Commander Aircraft LLC, factory authorized service centers, and Twin Commander partner product and service providers also participate in the University.

The core of the University experience is three days of educational seminars ranging from understanding your airborne weather radar system to flying WAAS approaches.
