Wings Over Golden Isles Air Show Will Feature The Canadian Snowbirds
If all goes well, coastal Georgia will see its first air show in 20 years October 8 and 9 in Brunswick, GA.
JLC Airshow Management announced the "Wings Over the Golden Isles Air Show" Wednesday. It will be headlined by the Canadian Snowbirds precision demonstration team, and include skydivers, vintage warbirds, military demonstration teams and national aerobatic champions, according to JLC Airshows Management spokesperson Brenda Little. A fireworks display will cap show.
The show must still be approved by the Glynn County Airport Commission, which is expected to have the event on its agenda at its meeting Tuesday, and it must then be approved by the county commission. The Brunswick News reports that, according to county commission chair Richard Strickland, those approvals will be pretty much a formality.
Several top airshow acts have already committed to the show, including pilots Patty Wagstaff, Scott Yoak and his Quicksilver P-51D, and Rob Holland. On the ground, Bill Braack and his Smoke-n-Thunder Jet Car will roar down the runway powered by 7,500 pounds of thrust as it races a low flying aircraft.
The show will also feature the USSCOM Paracommandos, who will freefall two miles before their parachutes open in a performance over the crowds to honor the men and women in Special Operations Command. The Disabled American Veterans B-52 will perform several flat passes, and be on static display during the show.
Organizers say the event could draw as many as 75,000 to 100,000 people to the area.
