UK Skydiver Suffers Apparent Heart Attack During Jump

Initial Investigation Finds No Evidence Of 'Suspicious Circumstances'

A man skydiving in the UK suffered an apparent heart attack during a jump Thursday, prompting an investigation by local authorities and the British Skydiving Association.

The incident occurred during a jump at the Hilbaldstow Airfield. Emergency personnel were called to the scent just after 1800 local time, and the 57-year-old jumper was airlifted to Hull Royal Infirmary, where he was pronounced dead, according to the newspaper This is Scunthorpe.

A Humberside Police spokesman said that an initial investigation did not reveal any "suspicious circumstances" surrounding the man's death. Target Skysports manager Karen Bain told the paper that the British Parachute Association would be looking into the matter. Target Skysports is based at Hilbaldstow Airfield. An association spokesman said that the man was an experienced skydiver, and that he expects that a report will be finalized fairly quickly, given the circumstances.

The parachute association said that there did not appear that the accident would have any effect on skydiving operations at the airport, and that the British National Skydiving Championships, scheduled over the next two weekends at the airfield, could proceed as planned.
