It is not yet known what brought down a Navy F/A-18C Hornet over
the Southern California Wednesday night, killing the pilot.
Navy officials report the single-seat Hornet was on a routine
training mission when went down near El Centro, a small town
located in the desert east of San Diego. The fighter aircraft was
based at NAS Lemoore, about 340 miles northwest of the accident
The pilot's name was not released pending notification of next
of kin. Military officials are investigating the accident.
