AirVenture Camp Contest Begins

Pilots Share Stories of "That Special Airplane" for an AirVenture Camp Experience

EAA's "Pilot Your Own Adventure" contest is back for 2022, offering big prizes from the organization and sponsor, Flight Outfitters. The chance to win a grand prize is open for pilots and aircraft owners, welcoming entrants to submit real-world stories behind the aircraft they have owned.

Up for grabs is a top of the line AirVenture experience, spending the expo in a fully outfitted Flight Outfitters camper along with a plethora of the brand's clothing and gear. Winners beside the first prize, up to the 5th winner will be awarded. Last year's grand prize winner took first place with a story of his trek westward in his newly restored 1968 Citabria 7ECA.

“Those of us who fly know that every airplane has its own story and soul,” said Jim Busha, EAA’s vice president of publications, marketing, and membership. “Maybe it’s the story of its operational history, the people that it connected, or the passengers it flew. It doesn’t matter if there were thousands - or even tens of thousands - of the type built, or if it’s rare or even unique, every airframe has tales to tell. And if we love the way you tell your aircraft's story, you might just win the AirVenture camping experience of a lifetime.”

“The excitement of last year’s inaugural Pilot Your Own Adventure contest, which culminated in a trip to Oshkosh, created tremendous enthusiasm to do it again in 2022,” said Mark Glassmeyer, Flight Outfitters president. "The memories of every aviation adventure includes that special aircraft that becomes an indelible part of the unforgettable experience. That’s what we’re eager to hear about in this year’s contest."

Aviators can enter the contest by writing about their aircraft, ideally between 500 to 1,000 words. Submissions must be non-fiction, based on real facts, events, and people, and must otherwise adhere to the published rules. Each one should be accompanied by 2 to 8 photos with explanatory captions up to 30 words each. The contest is open now, and closes on March 14, 2022. Entries may be submitted online or via mail.
