Vision Systems International To Develop Helmet Mounted Display System For F-35 JSF

Israeli Defense contractor Elbit Systems says its subsidiary, Vision Systems International (VSI), has been awarded a $84.6 million contract from Lockheed Martin.

VSI, which is jointly owned by Elbit Systems and Rockwell Collins, will develop a helmet mounted display system for Lockheed Martin’s F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF), Elbit Systems said in a statement.

Full production contracts for more than 3000 helmet mounted display systems in support of JSF production, are expected to follow the successful completion of the development.

The helmet mounted display contract covers the JSF system development and demonstration phase, and planning for low-rate initial production and subsequent full-rate production phases, Elbit Systems stated.

Under the contract, VSI will develop and deliver helmet mounted display units to support the JSF development and integration laboratories, the JSF simulators and the JSF flight-test platforms. Additionally, the contract includes options for technology refreshment and operational test and evaluation spares.
