Steven Moore's Plane Went Down Near Boulder Municipal Airport

The executive director of the National Gay Pilots Association (NGPA) was fatally injured Monday in an accident that occurred near Boulder Municipal Airport (KBDU) in Colorado.

Steven Moore, 35, was the only person on board the Mooney M-20C when it went down shortly after takeoff from KBDU. The San Diego Gay & Lesbian News reports that the airplane impacted the ground nose-first, and a post-impact fire ensued.

NGPA board chair Scott Shatzer posted a notice of Moore's accident on the group's Facebook Page. "It is with profound sadness that must must announce the loss of a treasured member of our NGPA family," Shatzer wrote.

"Our Executive Director and valiant crusader for the NGPA, Steven Moore, passed away Monday morning while flying his beloved Mooney in Colorado.

"Steven, we love you, we will miss you, and we will be forever indebted to you for all of the passion you put into your work with NGPA."

Moore, a native of Crown Point, IN, lived in Westminster, CO and was a first officer flying for ExpressJet.
