Harrier Down: North Carolina

Marine Pilot Safe

A USMC AV-8B Harrier crashed near North Carolina's Pamlico Sound Thursday night.

Not much information on the mishap is available at this point. The Marine Corps said the pilot, who wasn't identified, was able to safely eject.

The pilot was treated at a military hospital for unspecified minor injuries and later released.

It was the second time in a month a Marine Harrier was forcibly retired from duty by an unscheduled impact with the ground. As ANN reported June 15th, an AV-8B went down in a residential area of Yuma, AZ. The pilot in that instance was also able to eject safely.
