House Aviation Subcommittee To Hold UAS Hearing

Will Explore State Of Unmanned Aircraft System Integration Into NAS

The House Aviation Subcommittee, chaired by U.S. Rep. Frank LoBiondo (R-NJ) (pictured), will hold a hearing this week on the status of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) integration into U.S. airspace and the development of the UAS industry.

While the United States has the technology and practical expertise to be the global leader in the UAS industry, many complex policy issues remain to be addressed.  Moreover, there are growing signs that governments and entrepreneurs outside of the United States are making significant strides in this growing industry.  This hearing will focus on the state of the emerging UAS industry in the United States, including the FAA's ongoing efforts to safely integrate unmanned devices into the airspace, unresolved legal and public policy issues, and U.S. competitiveness.

The hearing, entitled “U.S. Unmanned Aircraft Systems: Integration, Oversight, and Competitiveness,” is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. on December 10.

Those invited to testify include:

  • Ms. Peggy Gilligan , Associate Administrator for Aviation Safety, FAA
  • Mr. Matthew Hampton, Assistant Inspector General for Aviation Audits, DOT
  • Dr. Gerald Dillingham, Director of Civil Aviation Issues, GAO
  • Captain Lee Moak, President, ALPA
  • Mr. Jesse Kallman, Head of Business Development and Regulatory Affairs, Airware
  • Dr. Nicholas Roy
