737 Down in Algerian Sahara

On Thursday, an Air Algerie airliner, reported to have been a 737, went down in the Hoggar Mountains of south Algeria, shortly after takeoff from the Algerian city of Tamanrasset.

The flight was to have gone to Algiers, some 800 miles north.

Reports vary; some say there were no survivors; others say there was one.

There are no official pronouncements on passengers; or on the nationalities of the victims.
