Thunderpig Inbound to Oshkosh

The last flying Fairchild C-123 Provider has RSVP’d to AirVenture! 

The last of its kind will be making an appearance at this year’s EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, with ‘Thunderpig’ making the trek from its home at the Air heritage Museum in Pennsylvania in commemoration of its Vietnam service. The C-123 Provider was built in 1956 before being tendered to the US Air Force, where it served as a cargo and troop transport through the 70s. Thunderpig was later found in its retirement, sleeping in an aircraft boneyard in Arizona in the late 1990s.

NTSB Prelim: Cessna T182T

On The Third Contact Attempt, The Pilot Indicated That “He Had A Problem”.

On May 14, 2023, about 1135 mountain daylight time, a Cessna T182T, N665B, was destroyed when it was involved in an accident near Albany, Wyoming. The pilot and passenger were fatally injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. According to a report filed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Air Route Traffic Control Center (ARTCC), The pilot departed Fort Collins/Loveland Regional Airport (FNL), Loveland, Colorado on an instrument flight rules (IFR) flight plan, destined for Wyoming Regional Airport (RKS), Rock Springs, Wyoming.

Mountain Wave Mountain waves occur when air is being blown over a mountain range or even the ridge of a sharp bluff area. As the air hits the upwind side of the range, it starts to climb, thus creating what is generally a smooth updraft which turns into a turbulent downdraft as the air passes the crest of the ridge.
