Southwest Airlines Pilots Vote to Authorize Strike

Unhappy with Contract Negotiations, 99% of SWA Aviators Approve Strike

Southwest Airlines pilots voted "overwhelmingly" in favor of authorizing a strike, with 98% of the base turning out to cast their ballot behind the issue. Only 1% voted against the strike, which shows where the pilots' heads are at this point in the negotiation process. The authorization won't, like so many exciting-sounding votes, result in an actual walk out, but may help to push the company in one direction or another as Southwest pilots hunt for better contract terms.

The three-man crew of a U.S. Navy-contracted Learjet was lost on Wednesday, 10 May 2023 when their aircraft went down near San Clemente Island—a U.S. Navy-owned landmass off San Diego’s Pacific shore. The lost aircraft was one of two Phoenix Air-owned-and-operated Learjets taking part in a U.S. Navy training exercise.

The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) joined in with a chorus of aviation stakeholders to urge the US House of Reps Committee on Ways & Means to "act swiftly in support of legislation to assist students pursuing aviation careers." The target of their attention is H.R.1818, the "Aviation Workforce Development Act", a bill that would amend the Internal Revenue Code to allow 529 college savings plans to be used for education-related expenses at FAA-certified facilities that provide aviation students with training for private and commercial ratings as well as AMTs.

One Witness Observed The Airplane Dive Into The Quarry On Its Final Pass And Collide With A Vertical Rock Wall

On April 13, 2023, about 1330 central daylight time, a Junior Ace experimental airplane, N5545, was destroyed when it was involved in an accident near Mammoth Springs, Arkansas. The pilot sustained fatal injuries. The airplane was operated as Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. The flight originated from the owner/pilot’s private airstrip in Ash Flat, Arkansas. The airstrip was about 16 miles from the accident location.
