Suspected In-Flight Breakup of Pilatus PC-12 Takes 5 Lives

Five Killed in Nevada Air Ambulance Tragedy

A Pilatus PC-12 medical transport apparently suffered an in-flight breakup prior to going down in Nevada on Friday, 24 February 2023—so stated the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).  All five of the aircraft’s occupants—the pilot, a flight nurse, a flight paramedic, the patient, and a member of the patient’s family—lost their lives.

An as-of-yet undisclosed issue with the Falcon-9 rocket booster’s fuel system has compelled NASA and SpaceX to scrub the planned 27 February 2023 launch of the Crew-6 mission to the International Space Station (ISS). SpaceX teams are currently investigating a possible malfunction of either the system by which the Falcon-9’s TEA-TEB (triethylaluminum triethylboron) fuel is delivered, or the fuel itself.

NTSB Prelim: Beech F35

During The Go-Around About 50-75 Ft Above Ground Level, The Engine Abruptly Lost Power

On February 5, 2023, about 1316 central standard time, a Beech F-35 airplane, N123JV, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Gladewater, Texas. The pilot and 3 passengers sustained minor injuries. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 91 personal flight. The pilot reported that on the return leg of a cross country flight, while landing at the planned destination, the airplane floated about halfway down the runway, and he aborted the landing and executed a go-around.

Off-Route Obstruction Clearance Altitude (OROCA) A published altitude which provides terrain and obstruction clearance with a 1,000 foot buffer in non-mountainous areas and a 2,000 foot buffer in designated mountainous areas within the United States, and a 3,000 foot buffer outside the US ADIZ. These altitudes are not assessed for NAVAID signal coverage, air traffic control surveillance, or communications coverage, and are published for general situational awareness, flight planning, and in-flight contingency use.
