Lowell Manary’s Gold Lindy Award Winning MJ-51C

This Unique Marcel Jurca Design Is A Must See For AirVenture 2022

By Anthony J. Liberatore If you stop by EAA’s Homebuilt Hangar at the northern end of the AirVenture field, you never know what gem of a homebuilt will be on display. It was by chance that I stopped by the Hangar on the pre-event Sunday, and the ariel Hot Rod in the Hangar certainly got my attention. There it stood on its tall retractable taildragger gear with a modern low drag cowl and an empennage full of P-51 DNA. Painted in a light gloss Gray with a long sliding canopy for two in the tandem seating configuration. The wings were unique, No Dihedral, which is a design hallmark of the late Marcel Jurca.

ScaleWings P-51 Mustang Replica Makes Its American Debut At AirVenture 2022

70% Of The Size, But Nearly 100% Of The Fun

Maria Morrison, ANN Senior Editor Walking down rows of exhibits at AirVenture 2022, it’s easy to be drawn in by a beautiful replica of a P-51 outside the ScaleWings booth. It looks to be a perfect Mustang, just 70% smaller. But the SW-51 has another major difference from the WWII fighter: it’s made of carbon, not metal. The two-seat, dual-control aircraft can fly at 155 kts at 5,000 feet, and is equipped with a turbocharged Rotax 915iS engine. A conversion to a BMW V12 is available as well. ScaleWings’ mission is to design, manufacture, and sell the world’s most iconic scaled replica aircraft with unique design features and full carbon composite materials.

Which Way, Spirit Shareholder?

Vote on Merger Leaves Spirit Execs in the Lurch, Unsure of Merger Status

The Spirit and Frontier Airlines merger stands before shareholders of the company, scheduled to vote on the matter today on whether or not the two should approve the airline as a preferred buyer. Rumor has it that Spirit’s board leans a different way than the shareholder body, preferring to merge with Frontier. The shareholders, however, just might reject the bid and push it into the arms of JetBlue Airways, whose $3.7 billion all-cash offer handily outstrips Frontier’s $2.6 billion offer. Naturally, money is only a portion of the deal, as the board and Frontier argue that a JetBlue bid has little chance of making its way past antitrust regulators.
