NASA's InSight Retired

After 4 Years of Service, Seismic Lander Tunes Out for Good

NASA’s InSight has seen the end of its service after the lander remains unresponsive for 2 consecutive attempts. Insight controllers at the agency’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California have slowly watched the lander's solar arrays gather layer after layer of thick martian dust, choking off InSight's power supply. They now suspect that its power banks are entirely depleted, with little recourse to recharge them.

Ukranian Drone School Seeks Funding

Training Facility for UAV-Enhanced Infantry Operations Looks to Grow 

A Ukrainian NGO has educated more than 400 soldiers to operate UAVs throughout the last 9 months, and now they're on the lookout for additional funding this holiday season. Advanced Defence began UA Drone School to continue their goal of training Ukrainian troops on the use of drones in wartime. B-2 Spirit to see Indefinite Pause Under Safety Concerns

B-1 to Replace Aircraft in Rose Parade, Bowl Game Flybys

The B-2 Spirit fleet will undergo an operational stand-down for its entire fleet following an emergency landing earlier this month. The incident occurred after an in-flight malfunction, damaging the aircraft after it collapsed a gear and skidded off the runway. The incident wasn't too dissimilar from a previous gear collapse incident that happened in 2021, where worn hydraulic systems and gear springs failed upon landing. That plane's stiff $10 million repair cost was a hard pill to swallow, and may be tempting USAF brass to go easy on the B-2 fleet while the B-21 program comes to fruition.

NTSB Prelim: Rotorsport UK LTD Cavalon

Gyroplane Completed One Full 360° Roll As It Descended And Impacted The Runway

On December 4, 2022, about 1135 eastern standard time, a Rotorsport UK LTD Cavalon, N401GR, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident at Beverly Regional Airport (BVY) Beverly, Massachusetts. The sport pilot was fatally injured. The gyroplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. The sport pilot, who was also the owner of the gyroplane, had acquired his sport certificate about 6 months prior to the accident.
