Omnibus Bill Clears 737-MAX-7 and 10 Variants for Certification

Tucked away in the bloated and controversial 2023 omnibus appropriations bill is language waiving the looming Congressional deadline for safety upgrades to Boeing’s 737 MAX-7 and MAX-10 jets. If signed into law, the bill will render subject aircraft eligible for FAA certification without changes to aspects of their crew-alerting systems ostensibly mandated by 2020’s Aircraft Certification, Safety and Accountability Act.

Martin Peryea of Electric Air Mobility (under the AIRO Group umbrella) has commented on the impending boom in eVTOL air taxi operations, noting that his own firm's progress is promising for service in 2025. "The eVTOL industry in 2022 has demonstrated that the market for air taxis is indeed coming, and the regulatory community is facing the challenges head-on. Entering into this market, having certified several aircraft, the design of the Jaunt Journey was based on bringing the proven Slowed Rotor Compound technology to market with a clear certification path as a rotorcraft," said Peryea.

NTSB Releases Preliminary Report on UES Metroliner Accident

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has made public its preliminary report on a 15 November 2022 accident in which an Ameriflight Fairchild SA227-AT Expediter (N247DH) acting as Ameriflight flight 7141 made an emergency landing on the links of the Western Lakes Golf Club in Pewaukee, Wisconsin. The board's report posits the downed Metroliner’s flight-crew experienced autopilot and aircraft control issues.
