Ready, Fire, Aim... An FAA Sole-Source Solution Strangles Flight Schools

ANN Special Report: News/Analysis/Opinion By ANN Staff E-I-C Note: Many years ago, one of the FAA's core mandates was to promote aviation... which some law-makers sought to strike down because they expected that it would minimize the FAA's safety mandate -- among other issues... and so it was eventually cut from the FAA's dictates. Our conversations with a number of FAA senior officials indicate that the FAA only saw the mandate as being a statement whereby the FAA would act in the best interests of aviation... period, but not blindly. Sadly; with the loss of this mandate, some in the FAA saw this as a reason to seek tighter restrictions and act in a manner that was not always in the aviation industry's best interest

Parts & Support for Enstrom Operators Ensured

Enstrom Helicopter Corporation has been given FAA Production Certificate Number 26CE, hopefully teeing up the company for a wonderful 2023. Enstrom Helicopter Corp hit a rough patch in 2022, hammered into Chapter 7 bankruptcy by years of economic grind, including inflation and slackening helicopter demand throughout the pandemic. On top of all those issues, the slowdown of the world’s economic engine imperiled the logistics chain at every level, leaving Enstrom boxed in on all sides just as the world returned to normalcy.

Airborne 12.07.22: Delta Contract?, V-280 WINS, Tamarack on A320?

Also: Hartzell's Voyager, Tu-95 Bombers Bombed, Possible FAA Admin Under Cloud, Swiss Air-Rescue

A Delta Pilot contract draft has begun floating about, with details pointing the way on an eventual vote. While the contract seems to be a slightly better offer than others in recent months, mounting economic pressure may tarnish the silvery luster of a cumulative 31% pay bump over the next 4 years. Bell Textron has been selected for the Army’s Future Long-Range Assault Aircraft (FLRAA) program. The deal will see the company build on their prior work from the Joint Multi-Role Technology Demonstrator (JMR TD) program, using the matured tiltrotor design

Air India Possibly Eyeing 500+ Aircraft Order

As Tata Group Begins Transformation Into Household Name, Growth Opportunities Abound

Air India could be on the precipice of a deal for as many as 500 jets as it eyes an ambitious growth deal, according to insiders. Tata Group's management of the airline has continued to build its operations into a new peak, and now that growth could be cemented with 400 narrowbody jets and 100+ widebodies. So far, the group seems fairly brand-ambivalent, which could be a not-so-subtle way to break the news to Airbus and Boeing in the hopes of prompting some courtship surrounding a deal.

Classic Aero-TV: The Nature of AirVenture-A Unique Look at the Planes of Oshkosh

From 2012 (YouTube Version): Aero-TV Takes A (Very) Creative Look At The Wilder Side Of Oshkosh

Sometimes, after a week of watching airplanes fly, they begin to seem to almost ... well ... begin to take on a life of their own. When videographers and writers start to look at airplanes in that way, strange things can happen. We call our airplanes "birds." They have names like KitFox, Goose, BearHawk, and ... yes ... Cub. And at an event like Oshkosh they do gather, like all the different animals at the watering hole on the African savannah, for a brief time before moving on. There are the fragile, the small and agile, the large and ponderous, and the swift predators. The only difference is that the

More Aero-Insanity... Airlines Lobby Congress for Single Pilot Operations

“Stupidity is a talent for misconception.”  —Edgar Allan Poe

As technology advances and pilot salaries increase, airlines have inclined with increasing resolve toward the controversial notion of amending Part 121 of the Federal Aviation Regulations—the bit pertaining to scheduled airlines—in such a way that commercial cargo and passenger flights could be lawfully undertaken as single-pilot operations. The Federal Aviation Administration Reauthorization Bill currently before Congress contains language requesting that the legislative body add provisions to Part 121 permitting single-pilot commercial flight operations—initially of cargo aircraft ...

The program will focus on selecting a suitable aircraft for Reliable’s Remotely Operated Aircraft System, with particular focus on twin-turboprop freighters. The pair will "jointly assess demand for remotely operated aircraft in Europe, hopefully stealing a march on a bevy of cargo operators abroad without the same level of polish on remote pilotage that Reliable Robotics has.
