Experienced Aerobatic Pilot Mourned by Local Aviation Community

An accident described by witnesses as the in-flight breakup of a Seamax M-22 has claimed the life of 57-year-old Kent I. Feuerring of Sagaponack, New York. Mr. Feuerring was an advertising executive, the president of the East Hampton Aviation Association, a highly-experienced aviator, and a skilled aerobatic pilot.

Solution Seeks Problem

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), on Friday, 7 October 2022, proposed to declare emissions from piston-engine aircraft operating on leaded fuel a danger to public health. The EPA further stated that if its proposed endangerment finding were to be finalized, the agency would subsequently propose regulatory standards for lead emissions from aircraft engines.

Program Designed to Support the Aviation Community

The Aviators Model Code of Conduct (AMCC) Version 3.0 has been released by the Aviators Code Initiative (ACI). Developed by the ACI’s Permanent Editorial Board, a team of aviation professionals, and drawing upon decades of research and experience, the Code recommends operating practices to enhance the quality and safety of flight operations. The AMCC applies to a range of operating environments, and pilot experience and certifications. Revisions to Version 3.0 include a general update, enhanced treatment of new technologies, and a response to the increasing presence of uncrewed aircraft.

On 7 October 2022, the successful liftoff of Rocket Lab's It Argos Up From Here mission from Launch Complex 1–the company’s private orbital launch site on New Zealand’s Mahia Peninsula—marked the 31st flight of an Electron rocket and the record-breaking eighth Rocket Lab launch of 2022–besting the company’s previous record of seven launches in 2020.

Bombardier has donated a Global 7500 business jet to Toronto’s Centennial College—the oldest publicly-funded college in Ontario and one of Canada’s top-ten collegiate research institutions. The Global is the second aircraft with which the Canadian aerospace titan has gifted the college in the last year. In recognition of Bombardier’s generous and recurring support, Centennial College’s Centre for Aerospace and Aviation at Downsview Park will be renamed The Bombardier Centre for Aerospace and Aviation.

AD 2022-20-01 Prompted By Reports Of Excessively Worn Bolts...

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for all Airbus Helicopters Deutschland GmbH (AHD) Model MBB-BK 117 C-2 helicopters. This AD was prompted by reports of excessively worn bolts that connect the cardan-pivot joint with the piston rod of the tail rotor actuator (TRA) assembly. This AD requires repetitively inspecting certain TRA assemblies, and depending on the results, replacing or repairing parts, or accomplishing additional inspections. This AD also prohibits installing an affected TRA assembly unless it passes required inspections. Lastly, this AD provides terminating actions for certain inspections, as specified in a European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) A

Airplane Continued To Descend In A Steep Left Bank, Nose-Low Attitude Until It Impacted Terrain

On September 18, 2022, about 1544 Pacific daylight time, a Aerovodochody L29-Delphin, N129MM, was destroyed when it was involved in an accident near Reno, Nevada. The pilot was fatally injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 Air Race flight. The accident airplane, operated as Race 29, was on lap 3 of 6. Witnesses reported that the accident airplane began a climb as it neared outer pylon no. 4 and appeared to tighten its left turn back toward the inner portion of the racecourse.
