New Restrictions Released This Week

A new “Notice to Airmen” was issued by the FAA Wednesday that imposed new restrictions barring flights over Afghanistan without prior approval, citing risks “posed by extremist/militant activity, limited risk mitigation capabilities and disruptions to air traffic services.” The FAA said that domestic air carriers and civilian pilots can fly into Kabul with prior US Defense Department approval for purposes of conducting evacuation or relief flights. The New Version Of Airbus’ H145 Was Unveiled At Heli-Expo 2019

ADAC Luftrettung, a major European Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS) operator, has taken delivery of its first two five-bladed H145s. Furthermore, the German HEMS operator will upgrade its current fleet of 14 four-bladed H145s to the five-bladed rotor system. Meritize And HAA Partner To Offer Innovative Scholarship

Helicopter and airplane flight training school Hillsboro Aero Academy reveals its expanded partnership with Meritize, a developer of funding solutions for skills-based education and workforce development. The program is now set to include a loan program for helicopter students. Previously, Meritize’s program had only been available to HAA’s airplane students. Under the Meritize Loan, credit can be given for merit and has the potential to improve their loan options if they share their military experience and academic history. Approved candidates can have access to a potential full deferment option during school in addition to being approved for certain additional products.

Two Units Meet To Discuss and Update Program

Cadets from Maxine Flournoy 3rd Coast Squadron’s new CAF Cadet program took a trip to San Antonio to meet with Cadets at the “Tex” Hill Wing recently. They used the opportunity to refresh their Cadet program for young CAF members, giving students the chance to gain experience in aircraft restoration. They will be restoring a 1940 J-4A Cub Coupe that flew with the Civil Air Patrol during WWII. The Tex Hill Wing, a CAF Unit in San Antonio, is lead by Darren Bond and other Unit Members. The 3rd Coast Squadron Cadets visited them in July to get some guidance on upcoming events and went for a hangar tour.

Delivery Of The First Aircraft Expected In 2022

Leonardo has reported that Mercy Flight Central has signed a contract for four IFR- certified AW119Kxs for EMS transport missions. Delivery of the first aircraft is expected in 2022. These new IFR capable aircraft will allow in-flight critical care and the transport of patients within Mercy Flight’s 150-mile service radius. The AW119Kx in its latest variant is reportedly the first single engine helicopter in decades to meet current IFR requirements without compromise, which will allow Mercy Flight pilots to operate the aircraft safely during low visibility and the challenging weather conditions common in this region, due to avionics from Genesys Aerosystems and redundant flight systems.

Multiple Witnesses Reported That They Observed The Airplane In A Descending Turn

On July 30, 2021, about 0924, a Cessna 150 airplane, N8520G, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Banning, California. The pilot and passenger were fatally injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14, Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. A witness, located at the Banning Airport (BNG), reported hearing the airplane in the traffic pattern practicing touch-and-go landings. Multiple witnesses reported that they observed the airplane in a descending turn, however, none of the witness observed the airplane impact terrain.

AD 2021-16-13 Requires Repetitive Inspections Of The Vertical Fin Vibration Absorber Installation

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for Leonardo S.p.a. (Leonardo) Model A109S and AW109SP helicopters with a certain part-numbered vertical fin vibration absorber installation installed. This AD requires repetitive inspections of the vertical fin vibration absorber installation and the surrounding structure and depending on the inspection results, removing certain parts from service. This AD also prohibits installing certain part-numbered vertical fin vibration absorber installations on any helicopter. This AD was prompted by a report of cracks and damage detected on the vertical fin absorber installation and surrounding structure

AD 2021-17-13 Prompted By A Report Of A Damaged Wheel Braking System Pneumatic Line Fitting

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for certain PZL Swidnik S.A. Model PZL W-3A helicopters. This AD was prompted by a report of a damaged wheel braking system pneumatic line fitting installed on the left-hand (LH) main landing gear (MLG) leg. This AD requires modifying the LH MLG leg. The FAA is issuing this AD to address the unsafe condition on these products. This AD becomes effective September 7, 2021.
