We've heard variations on this story before... but (thankfully), not in a while. A five-time previously convicted felon was sentenced today to 14 months in prison for flying an airplane without a pilot’s license. According to court documents, on September 27, 2018, Ryan Guy Parker, 31, of Fredericksburg, took an airplane at Shannon Airport in Fredericksburg for a joyride. Parker, who named his business “Outlaw Aviation,” was employed by the airplane’s owner to assemble the plane but had not yet completed the job. At the time of the flight, the airplane had a caster rear wheel, a plastic bicycle water bottle for radiator overflow, and duct tape

ISS Hosting Massive Crew Compliment of 11 Astronauts

NASA astronauts Shane Kimbrough and Megan McArthur, along with JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) astronaut Akihiko Hoshide, and ESA (European Space Agency) astronaut Thomas Pesquet aboard the SpaceX Crew Dragon have arrived at the International Space Station. Crew-2 joins Expedition 65 crew of crew of Shannon Walker, Michael Hopkins,  Victor Glover, and Mark Vande Hei of NASA, as well as Soichi Noguchi of JAXA and Roscosmos cosmonauts Oleg Novitskiy and Pyotr Dubrov. SpaceX Crew Dragon Endeavour docked to the complex at 5:08 a.m. EDT while the spacecraft were flying 264 miles above the Indian Ocean.

B-29 Doc Is One Of 1,644 B-29 Superfortresses Built

The B-29 Doc History Restored Tour will land at the Lone Star Flight Museum in Houston, Texas, May 4-9, 2021. Doc will arrive in Houston, Monday, May 3 and will be available for ground and cockpit tours Wednesday, May 5 through Friday May 7, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. B-29 Doc Flight Experience rides will be available at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., Saturday, May 8 and Sunday, May 9, followed by ground and flight deck tours on those days from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Admission for the static display event and flight deck tours will be $5 per person in addition to the Lone Star Flight Museum general admission ticket. General admission tickets start at $9.95 with senior and military discounts.

While at EAA AirVenture 2015, ANN News Editor, Tom Patton, ventured out to visit the warbirds and was attracted to a large four engine aircraft that is a variation of the World War II Consolidated B-24. Test Will Provide 24 Calendar Months Of Currency

As may in the drone community know, things have been changing in terms of the regs and procedures put forth by the FAA. And... keeping up with 'required knowledge' is a significant requirement. Drone pilots who already have part 107 Remote Pilot Certification can now take their required recency of knowledge training courses online. The training ensures that they have the updated knowledge necessary to operate in accordance with the Operations Over People rule which became effective on April 21, 2021. The training is free.

USMC Took Control Of The MQ-9A in September of 2018

On March 31st, the Marine Corps’ first MQ-9A Unmanned Aerial System achieved 10 thousand total flight hours in the Central Command area of responsibility, a major milestone for the modernization of the force. The MQ-9A “Reaper” is a Remote Split Operations product from General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Incorporated. The RSO capability revolutionizes military operations by allowing the system operator to be thousands of miles away from both the launching site, and airspace covered by the aircraft.

AERO Friedrichshafen officially cancels their 2021 show. The postulated replacement date in 2021 would have put it in direct competition with Oshkosh, and only days apart. On April 5, 2021, about 1939 central daylight time, an Evolution Revolt weight-shift trike, N565PK, was destroyed when it was involved in an accident near Seminole, Texas. The student pilot was fatally injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 91 personal flight. According to a witness who knew the pilot and had seen the pilot flying on other occasions, the airplane was flying at a lower altitude than usual and then it made a sharp low turn. AD 2021-09-09 Requires Modifying The RPC Before The Next Parachute Jump

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for certain Uninsured United Parachute Technologies, LLC (UPT) parachutes. This AD results from reserve pin covers (RPCs) catching on the parachute container flaps and preventing the reserve parachute from deploying. This AD requires modifying the RPC before the next parachute jump and replacing the RPC at the next reserve parachute packing. The FAA is issuing this AD to address the unsafe condition on these products. This AD is effective May 7, 2021.
